Stanford-le-Hope is a Church of England parish and town with a population of 28,765 people. It is located within the county of Essex and is locally only referred to as Stanford. The town is 23.8 miles to the east of Charing Cross in London.
One of the most notable aspects of Stanford is that it was the place were Joseph Conrad lived and wrote. The town is also completely surrounded by countryside, which is atypical of other towns and villages in the unitary authority of Thurrock.
Stanford-le-Hope lies to the north of the River Thames. The Thames Estuary forms the town’s southern border and the A13 motorway is Stanford’s northern border. At the centre of Stanford’s developments and activities in the St Margaret’s Church, which is 800 years old. Around the church are multiple amenities that include eateries, pubs, and shopping outlets. A tributary of the River Thames, the River Hope, flows through Stanford, adding to the town’s friendly and pleasant atmosphere.
There is a lot of greenery and parks in the town. The most popular reserve is the Thurrock Thameside with its visitor centre and views of the River Thames. The greenery in the town makes it ideal for active residents that like jogging or dog walking.
Stanford-le-Hope has a railway station and easy access to the A13 Road, connecting it to prominent surrounding towns, including Southend-on-Sea, London, and Dartford. Surrounding villages include Horndon-on-the-Hill, Corringham, as well as Orsett.
