Eynsford is a beautiful village with a population of just over 1,800 people. It has a river frontage, making it a popular destination for tourists. It is located 4.5 miles south-east of Swanley and 7.7 miles north from the Sevenoaks Town Center.
There are many historic attractions in Eynsford. These include a beautiful humpback bridge and the 16th century Plough Inn, a glorious restaurant. The parish church is dedicated to St Martin.
There are also a considerable number of notable people that hail from Eynsford. The most prominent one is probably Percy Pilcher that constructed and flew gliders in 1899. On 30 September of this year, he attempted to fly his “Hawk” in stormy weather. Unfortunately, the plane’s tail snapped off and Pilcher fell 10 meters to the ground. He succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Eynsford is also home to Eynsford Castle that dates from 1088. It is one of the most complete Norman castles in the country. Other popular major attractions include the Ancient Roman Villa, the Eagle Heights Bird Sanctuary, as well as Lullingstone Castle and World Garden.
Despite the fact the Eynsford is a relatively small town, there is an abundance of places to eat and drink. From Eynsford, there are buses to Sevenoaks, Swanley, Dartford, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings, and Kent Coast. If you want, you can also take a bus to the Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are also multiple buses to prominent schools and colleges in Sevenoaks and Dartford.
