Erith is located on the in the outer south-east of London that mainly consists of industrial land, rural areas, and salt marshes to the east. The centre of Erith saw rapid development during the 1960’s that included a riverside high-street that include three listed buildings, which include the Church of England and the Carnegie Building.
Erith has a population of around 68,660 people. It lies on the south bank of the River Thames and has seen a rapid modernization of dwellings in the past 50 years or so. There is a rail link between Erith and London and a dual carriageway that links Erith with Thamesmead. Erith is also known for having the longest pier in London.
The Erith Western Thames Gateway allowed for significant changes in the towns demeanour. The regeneration includes the construction of new flats next to the river and mixed-use developments.
There are a large number of amenities in Erith that include the Erith Leisure Centre, the David Ives Stadium, the Erith Playhouse Theatre, and the Erith Yacht Club. There are also burger bars, tire dealerships, and fast food joints. The Erith Riverside Shopping Centre is home to a number of shopping outlets and restaurants.
There are as many as 11 churches in Erith as well as high-end secondary and primary schools. Although traveling to London is relatively hassle-free, many people work as well as life in Erith. It is a versatile town that is served by London Buses as well as rail.
