Vange's Favourite Boilers

Vaillant Boiler

Vaillant

Vaillant are one of the most popular boiler brands in the UK. They’re a German company, with their headquarters in Remscheid, Germany since 1874.

Worcester Bosch

Worcester Bosch are probably the best known boiler brand in the country. Although they’re now owned by the big German brand, Bosch, Worcester boilers are still very much a British company. Their boilers are still made in Warndon in Worcester, in the United Kingdom.

Viessmann

Viessmann is the best boiler manufacturer you’ve never heard of. We’re big fans of Viessmann here at Thames Boilers because they’re as well built as (if not better) than Vaillant or Worcester Bosch, but their prices are a little lower. This makes them fantastic value – and Which? agree, giving Viessmann several ”Best Buy” awards in recent years.

Baxi

Baxi Boilers are another well established British heating manufacturer, who can trace their roots back to Richard Baxendale, an iron founder, who started the Baxendale Company (now Baxi) in 1866, based in Preston in Lancashire. Today, Baxi also make boilers under the Main and Potterton brands. We recommend Baxi boilers as the least disruptive replacement for some conventional boilers – and their Main brand for people who are on a budget.

FAQ

As a rule, if you‘ve got one bathroom and also great water pressure at your kitchen tap or outdoors tap, a combination central heating boiler is normally the very best option.
If you‘ve got more than one bathroom in your home, a conventional central heating boiler (or perhaps a system central heating boiler) with a hot water tank would be the most effective option.

No. For existing houses, if you need to change your central heating boiler from 2035 onwards, you will not be able to put in another gas central heating boiler. According to current government plans, you would need to fit a Hydrogen boiler or a heat pump. Nevertheless, if your gas central heating boiler is operating in 2035, you will not need to do anything till it needs to be changed, such as if it’s broken down & beyond repair.

It can differ hugely depending on what you require.
However as a rough guide, to take your old central heating boiler out & put a new one in the same location ranges from about ₤1800 to ₤3000.
And strip out an old kind of boiler with a hot water storage tank {and} install a combi central heating boiler costs between about ₤3000 and ₤5000.
If you require various other work carried out at the same time, such as a power flush, a new gas pipeline, or new radiators, this will contribute to the estimated costs.

If you‘ve got one bathroom and also great water pressure, yes.
If you‘ve got more than one bathroom or inadequate water pressure, then no{, you should look at a conventional boiler or a system boiler}.

Yes. There are numerous types of smart thermostats that can link to the web so you can manage your central heating boiler from your phone. Some brand names people choose are Nest, Honeywell, Tado, and also Hive.

Is It Time To Install A New Boiler? Here Are 6 Things You'll Love

1. Reduce Your Gas Bill

Did you know that installing a new boiler can save you up to £570 a year on your gas bill? (based on replacing a G rated boiler with no controls with a new A rated boiler with a controls upgrade)

2. Stop Paying For Boiler Breakdowns

Some people mistakenly think that modern boilers fail more often than older boilers. That’s because modern boilers can be more complex than their predecessors. For cheap, low quality boilers, this may be true; cheap boilers are not very reliable. However, high quality modern boilers are very robust and breakdowns are rare. Plus, new boilers come with manufactuer’s warranties of up to 12 years, which include all parts and labour.

3. More powerful showers and faster filling baths

Does your shower just dribble? Does the water run so slowly it takes ages to get all the shampoo out of your hair? A new boiler could fix that. Combi boilers and unvented hot water cylinders can give you fantastic pressure to all your taps and showers. This is because the water comes straight from high pressure mains water and not a tank in your attic. So not only do you get a boiler that saves you money and keeps you nice and warm – you also get a powerful shower as an added bonus!

4. No more running out of hot water

If you find you keep running out of hot water, then your hot water cylinder may be too small – or it may be full of limescale. To fix this, you can either replace your hot water cylinder for a newer efficient one, or if your home is suitable, you can take out your old boiler and hot water tank and replace them both with a combi boiler. This will give you as much hot water as you need and save you space because you don’t need a seperate cylinder and tanks in the loft.

5. Create extra space in your home

It doesn’t matter whether you live in a one bedroom flat or a 6 bedroom detached house, we all need more space. When you upgrade your central heating system, there are lots of opportunities to find more space in your home. New boilers can be installed out of the way in places like lofts, airing cupboards or garages. Some boilers, like combi boilers, need no tanks or cylinders either, which instantly creates space in your airing cupboard and loft.

6. Never worry about turning the heating on again.

The great thing about modern boiler timers and thermostats is that you hardly ever need to adjust them. They automatically change their time when the clocks change, and once they’re set up, you’ll always feel comfortable and warm. Not too hot and not too cold. And because these state of the art heating controls also know how hot or cold it is outside, they can back off the power to the boiler on warm days, saving you money on your gas bills.
